The Story of Prophet Muhammad SAW Receiving the First Revelation
Quoted by detikJateng from NU Online, Friday (7/4/2023) Rasulullah SAW was a person who liked to contemplate. He always prayed to God to give enlightenment to his people. He was very worried about the moral condition of Meccan society which was experiencing collapse.
Until one time when the Messenger of Allah was silent and worshiping in Cave Hira in the month of Ramadan 610 AD, the Angel Gabriel came with the first revelation of Qs. Al-Alaq verses 1-5.
From Aisha Ummul Mu’minin radliyallahu ‘anha, she said: “The beginning of the revelation received by the Messenger of Allah was ar-ru’ya ash-shalihah (good dreams) in sleep. Usually the dreams he saw were clear like the morning weather. Then he became happy to be alone ; then he remained alone in the cave of Hira to endurenuts. He endurenuts, that is, he prayed there for several nights, and did not return to his wife’s house. And for that he brought provisions. Then he returned to Khadijah, and under him were also provisions for that need, until he came to him Al-Haqq (truth, revelation) while he was in the cave of Hira. Then an angel came to him and said, “Read!” He replied, “I cannot read.” The Prophet narrated, “Then the angel pulled me and embraced me tightly until I was exhausted.
Then he let go of me and said again, “Read!” and I replied, “I can’t read.” Then he pulled me and hugged me again tightly until I was exhausted. As he let go of me, he said again, ” Read it!” I answered again, “I can’t read.” Then for the third time he pulled and hugged me as hard as he could, then as he released me he said,
(1) Read by (mentioning) the name of your Creator God; (2) He has created man from a clot of blood; (3) Read, and your Lord is Most Gracious; (4) The one who teaches (humans) through the medium of a pen; (5) He taught people what they did not know. (QS. al-Alaq, 96:1-5)
Then the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) returned to Khadijah’s house in fear until his body trembled. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to Khadijah, “Cover me!” finally He was covered until his fear disappeared.
After that, the Messenger of Allah began to tell what had happened to Khadijah, he said “Indeed, I am worried about myself.” Hearing that, Khadijah replied, “Absolutely not. By Allah, Allah will never humiliate you. Indeed, you are the one who always connects the ties of brotherhood, always supports those in need, always seeks what is needed, always respects guests and helps those in need. defend the truth.
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was invited by Khadijah to meet one of her uncle’s sons named Waraqah bin Naufal bin Asad bin Abdul Uzza. He was an Arab who embraced Christianity during the dark ages or ignorance.
In addition, Waraqah was also a person who had good Hebrew language skills. He even wrote a number of books and the Bible in Hebrew, even though he was blind and old.
When Khadijah arrived there, she said to Waraqah, “O my cousin, listen to the story of your nephew.” Then Waraqah asked the Messenger of Allah SAW, “O my nephew, what did you see?”
Hearing the question from Waraqah, the Prophet also told about what he had seen and experienced while in the Cave of Hira. Then Waraqah said, “That is Namus (Jibril) whom Allah sent to Moses. Hopefully I am still alive when your people expel you!
The Messenger of Allah asked, “Will they expel me?” Waraqah replied, “Yes, because everyone who “Bringing what you bring will surely be hated by people. So you will experience times like that in the future, and if I am still alive, I will definitely help you with all my strength.”
Not long after the meeting, Waraqah died. Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad received revelations continuously for approximately 23 years as a marker of the beginning of human civilization, especially Islam.
