The main task of the Prophet Muhammad SAW is to transform humanity into abid, pious, and mushlih people, that is, capable of making improvements. The focus of his guidance is on four things, namely instilling faith, purifying the soul, teaching the Quran and hadith, and developing the skills of the people. See the Quran, surah al-Jumuah, verse 2.

Meaning, “It is He who sent to the illiterate people a Messenger from among themselves, reciting His verses to them, purifying them and teaching them the Book and the Wisdom (As Sunnah). And indeed, before that, they were truly in clear error.”

He shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam had performed his duty perfectly so that the generation of the companions was the best generation. That is as he said, “The best of generations is the generation of my generation.” (HR al-Bukhari and Ibn Hibban). (See QS at- Taubah: 100).

In improving the behavior of the ignorant Arabs, the Prophet used several effective methods.

First, strengthen faith and worship Allah SWT. This faith will produce peace of mind and relying on Him is a link to make life within the framework of worship only to Him. This pattern of Muslim life is explained in the Qur’an surah al-An’am verse 162.

Second, instill piety and increase remembrance. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Fear Allah wherever you are.” (Narrated by Ahmad and Tirmidhi) And he explained that the place of piety is the heart (Narrated by Muslim). Piety will remind the believer, even when tempted by the devil (Surah al-A’raf, 11:11). ‘raf 201).

When piety has taken hold of the heart, a person’s character will be very noble.

Third, instill sincerity in all actions. Allah emphasizes this in surah az-Zumar verse 1 and al-Bayyinah verse 5. He also tells us to beware of riya.

Fourth, asceticism and always remembering the hereafter. The Prophet reminded his companions of the hereafter and advised them to distance themselves from the world. He said, “Mention the destroyer of pleasures, namely death, frequently (HR Turmudzi, Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah).

Fifth , the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) educated his companions to love knowledge and study it. Sixth, he set a good example and was always at the forefront of practicing noble morals. Seventh, he instilled freedom and a positive attitude.

The Prophet said, “Don’t be a fool and say, ‘When people are good, we follow them, and when they are unjust, we follow them.’ However, protect yourself, if people are good, you should do good, and if they are bad, do not follow their evil.” (HR at-Turmudzi).

Eighth, pay attention to the psyche of people who want to be changed and this is done continuously. Ninth, involve others in making changes and preparing members in certain fields.

The Prophet said, “Convey from me even one verse.” (HR al-Bukhari).

This hadith confirms the obligation to convey the teachings of the Qur’an not only for the Messenger of Allah, but every Muslim must convey it.

Tenth, vary in the way to change, such as by making parables, telling stories, discussions, or other things so that boredom does not appear in the companions. May we be able to follow the example of the Prophet SAW.
